About Me
The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with (her) him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards (her) him. ~Auguste Rodin
I have spent the majority of my life working and living in three of the largest cities in the United States. Concrete, pavement, brick, brownstone, steel, over-crowded streets, mass transit and grid-lock was the norm.
Flowers gave me release from stress after my daily commute to work. At the start of each work week, I bought myself a large bouquet of flowers to place in a vase on my desk at the office. Glancing at them during the day and smelling their floral scent was a delight.
A flower’s appeal is in its contradictions — so delicate in form yet strong in fragrance, so small in size yet big in beauty, so short in life yet long on effect. ~Terri Guillemets
Now that I am retired from my 9 to 5, I find joy and fulfillment painting still life, figurative and portraiture compositions in watercolor.
My Mission
I am building a world where we embrace the nature of transition, using the language of symbols to find clarity in choice and the courage to begin again.
Works In Progress
Contemporary art watercolor paintings and prints by Vanissa James. Her paintings embrace the nature of transition, using symbolism to find clarity in choice and the courage to begin again. She uses African Batik design shapes and motifs, fruit (such as the pomegranate, persimmon, and figs), the artichoke, and botanical/flower symbolism in her upcoming series “The Art of Becoming.” Perfect for collectors seeking meaningful modern art that explores identity and the bravery to choose a path.
